Why Poecile?
Poecile Productions is a hands-on storytelling studio imbued with an editor’s instincts: a deep respect for story, a sharp eye for detail, and a steady grasp of the big picture. Poecile draws out the strongest version of what you’re already creating, helping you move faster, work smarter, and trust the process from first cut to final frame. With a powerful, organized workflow and a collaborative spirit, Poecile turns complexity into clarity and effort into momentum. We believe the process itself is as important as the finished film, and that you shouldn’t have to do this work alone. With the right creative partners, you and your film come fully alive. Poecile is here to help you find your story’s golden hour.
Poecile [Pea-Suh-lee]: latin for Chickadee
Named after the resilient chickadee, Poecile Productions embodies the spirit of a bird that refuses to fly south for the winter. We thrive in the elements, bringing cheer and tenacity to the filmmaking process, regardless of the climate. Based on the southern coast of Maine, we’re not afraid of the darkness or the cold. We’ll help your story come alive, no matter what season it’s in.
Meet Hannah
Poecile Productions was founded in 2026 by Hannah Long-Higgins, an Emmy award-winning documentary editor and independent filmmaker with roots in visual journalism. Hannah bridges a strong visual sensibility with rigorous journalistic standards to craft high-impact films that explore what it means to be alive and belong in today’s rapidly transforming world.
For the past decade, Hannah has brought films to life on the page, timeline, and screen for global audiences in newsrooms, production companies, and non-profits. Her work has been recognized by the White House News Photographers Association, NLGA: The Association of LGBTQ Journalists, and the Scripps Howard Journalism Awards. Most recently, Hannah was the lead editor of the Emmy Award–winning PBS FRONTLINE documentary Maui’s Deadly Firestorm. Prior to entering the film world, Hannah spent half a decade as a BBC video journalist, covering U.S. life and politics for a global audience. Hannah holds an M.S. in Journalism from Columbia Journalism School.
Today, Hannah enjoys working in a highly collaborative capacity, helping directors, companies, and storytellers of all kinds find the pulse, heart, and shape of their films while staying true to the director’s vision, upholding high ethical standards, maintaining editorial integrity, and ensuring factual accuracy. From TV documentaries to one-minute films and everything in between, there is no story too big or small for Hannah’s imagination, and she would love to work with you to help bring your story to life.
